Therapeutic conversations depend on our ability to foster a relationship, where disturbing inner
experiences could be heard, explored and understood. This workshop will cover the essential skills of communicating empathy and validation, and also ways to help people rethink about their difficulties through a process of constructive dialogue.

Led by Dr Saju, the aim of the workshop is to learn to deepen the relationship and use conversational skills from a variety of brief therapy models such as supportive therapy, person centred therapy, DBT, Motivational interviewing, Narrative therapy and solution focused therapy. The workshop will be useful for trainees and experience clinicians. The diversity of approaches will offer a rich choice for participants, to select interventions according to their interest and needs, in their clinical work.

After attending this course you will be:

  • Able to use empathic validation to deepen engagement with client
  • Use a life story/narrative perspective to deconstruct problems that traps patients
  • Have the knowledge of therapeutic potential in being a witness when change is not possible
