It is well known that people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia have poorer physical health outcomes than the general population. Antipsychotics have important effects on some of these parameters such as weight, blood glucose and lipids. NICE guidance covers what physical health parameters should be monitored when these medications are used which can be viewed here. It is important that health professionals are aware what monitoring is required with these medications and if problems develop how you choose between the different antipsychotics.

This talk will cover how antipsychotics affects on the following

  • Sexual function
  • Diabetes
  • Weight plan
  • Lipids
  • Movement side effects
  • Cardiovascular side effects
  • High dose monitoring

After attending this course delegates will be able to:

  • Know how to monitor and deal with the physical health side effects of antipsychotics
  • Know how the antipsychotics differ in terms of side effects
