Section 12 Refresher

Presented by the Andrew Sims Centre’s established Mental Health Law multi-professional training team. In recent years there have been significant changes to mental health law and in addition, case law continues to refine the law and thus our practice. These changes, along with the complex interface between the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act, have made it increasingly difficult for practitioners to be confident of their authority for treatment.  

This one-day refresher course is accredited by the North of England Approvals Panel as a refresher course for Section 12 Approved Doctors and is valid for those attending from other parts of England. 

This course starts at 9.30am and finishes at 4.45pm. You must attend the whole course to be entitled to a certificate of attendance which will be accepted as proof of completion of a Section 12 re-approvals course. 

A new Code of Practice for the Mental Health Act has been issued, the first revision to the Code since 2008. The new Code came into effect on the 1st April 2015 and can be downloaded here.

This course offers 6 CPD points and is suitable for Psychiatrists needing to renew their Section 12 status. Please contact your local approvals office to find out details regarding the criteria for this course.
