Beyond well understood side effects of the medication we prescribe some can have severe long-term or even permanent serious adverse effects for our patients. This full day course will provide you with an understanding of these to support your safe and effective practice.

 The programme is led by multiple expert speakers and will cover topics such as:  

Tardive Dyskinesia and long-term neurological consequences of antipsychotic medication 

Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome – identification, risk factors and initial management 

High Dose antipsychotics – the evidence and risks    

Important ECG changes, QTc intervals and Q&A     

Understanding and managing weight gain    

Kidneys – when to panic and what to do   

Monitoring and managing secondary effects – making sense of the blood results    

After attending this course delegates will be able to...

  • Understand how some of our medications can be harmful to patients.
  • Assessment and monitoring requirements to identify serious adverse effects.
  • How to prevent or act to ameliorate adverse effects.

This course offers 6 CPD points and is suitable for Psychiatrists and Higher Trainees.
