In 2020 there were 4912 suicides registered in England, 285 in Wales 219 in Northern Ireland and 805 in Scotland: A minor decrease to previous years. However, it appears that once Covid isolation periods came to an end, the rates began to increase once more. The general tendency seems to present males as more at risk, with those coming from the North-east and deprived areas showing the highest rates of suicide attempts.

Many victims had also been previously reported as missing persons. The support that individuals with suicide ideation receive appears to be somehow effective, however the success rate is related to the age and gender of the victim as well as other associated factors. On the other hand, the work done by charities to prevent suicide, is often reversed when victims of suicide seek help online, but instead other users encourage them to take their lives.

The talk will focus on suicide prevention strategies, will assist in identifying the risks and preventive factors related to suicide and suicide attempts, examine suicide notes, as well as increase awareness about suicide behaviour. The talk will also focus on how the online environment could pose a risk for individuals with suicide ideation.
