Transgender Healthcare is an important and growing field of practise. This workshop will provide an introduction and core knowledge of transgender healthcare for those working outside of the field.

Led by Dr Derek Glidden, BMBS, BMedSci, MRCPsych Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Clinical Lead, Nottingham Centre for Transgender Healthcare and Module Co-Lead, Gender Identity Healthcare, Royal College of Physicians, this workshop will discuss the wider historical, social and legal contexts of gender diversity. We will discuss the transgender healthcare of gender diverse patients; this will include models of care, clinical practise and gender affirming treatments (including cross sex hormone treatment and gender affirming surgery), and the evidence and outcomes. We will provide a forum for interactive discussion about the wider clinical care of gender diverse patients, drawing from the evidence and experience.

After attending this course delegates will be able to…

  • Discuss the wider historical, social, cultural and legal contexts of gender diversity
  • Outline transgender healthcare, gender affirming treatments and their access within the NHS.
  • Inform their own practise with gender diverse
    patients.
