This course will help you to assess the condition and associated disorders such as OCD and other somatizing disorders.  You will learn to use a formulation using CBT and attachment theory, and practical ways to manage treatment.

Health anxiety is a common problem, but professions struggle to engage and help patients. Death anxiety is poorly understood but may be associated with various physical health and mental health conditions. In most cases, patients may not reveal their fear, as they may think it is not a health care issue. This course will use existential and humanistic theories to understand
and help patients.

There will be case studies that help to apply formulation and psychological interventions from a compassionate perspective. Case studies are based on patients attending psychotherapy, or inpatients in general hospital.

After attending this course, delegates will gain...

  • Understanding the nature of health anxiety and death anxiety
  • Construct psychological formulation of health and death anxiety
  • Use therapeutic interventions, based on CBT
    and humanistic approaches

This course is led by Dr Saju Padakkara who has 30 years of experience in clinical psychiatry, with endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry from 2002.   He is accredited CBT therapist, Medical Psychotherapist and psychotherapy supervisor since 2009. He has MSC in Family Systemic Therapy.  He was influenced by attachment theory and narrative therapy, but integrates this with his main model, CBT. He has worked in various specialities in adult psychiatry over the years in Yorkshire.
