Borderline Personality Disorder
Tackling Complexity and Offering Hope: Making Sense of BPD

People living with BPD are often perceived as difficult, challenging and resistant to professionals’ best efforts. Frustration becomes a hallmark of the care giver: client relationship. Helplessness, hopelessness, emptiness and anger pervade. But, it doesn’t have to be this way. It is possible to work positively and hopefully, and in doing so to transform lives.

Led by Dr Fiona Mason, this session will enable practitioners to gain a broad understanding of BPD, from a wide variety of perspectives, and through this deliver better care and services to individuals, who are often excluded by virtue of their presentation and diagnosis.
Emphasis will be placed on what BPD looks like in practice, the challenges posed to services, how leadership and management theory can be applied to working with people with BPD and how to use phasing and formulation to achieve better outcomes for both clients and services.
