Led by Dr Nick Brindle and Dr Sharon Nightingale, this course aims to improve delegates skills in identifying key neuropsychiatric symptoms. Neuropsychiatric symptoms are frequent and impactful in people with Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease/Related dementias.
There have been important developments in the non-pharmacological management of agitation, our understanding of the potential harms of atypical antipsychotics in people with neurodegenerative diseases and there have been exciting emerging pharmacological therapies for psychosis (e.g. pimavanserin) and agita-tion (e.g. analgesia, citalopram, dextromethorphan).
The emerging research will be presented in the context of a recent International Psychogeriatric Association (IPA) expert consensus.
