Update: Risk Assessment & Management in the Perinatal Period - Lessons from Mortality Reviews

Maternal suicide remains the leading direct cause of maternal death between 6 weeks and 1 year after the end of pregnancy. Mothers and Babies: Reducing risk through Audits and Confidential Enquiries across the UK (MBRRACE-UK) highlights the complex interplay of social, physical and mental health concerns of women in the perinatal period. Collaborative multi-disciplinary working between professionals can reduce risk and mortality.
Led by Dr Bangash & Dr Pearson, the workshop will cover risk assessment and management in the context of lessons learned from MBRRACE-UK. As part of the session there will be opportunities for delegates to participate in group work using case studies and to benefit from an experience MBRRACE-UK serious case reviewer's reflections.
After attending this course delegates will be able to:
- Start developing a perinatal focus to risk assessment and management.
- Ensure that lessons learned from mortality reviews inform the above.
- Develop a greater understanding of the importance of good communications between mental health services, maternity services and primary care.
