The Autism Spectrum: Understanding and Supporting Neurodiversity
Tuesday 14th January 2020The Met Hotel, King Street, Leeds LS1 2HQ
9:00am Registration, 9:30am Welcome and 4:30pm Close
Presented by Pete Hughes, CEO, Leeds Autism Services and Gina Lewis, Autistic Adult & Leeds Autism Services Employee, this talk aims to promote acceptance of people on the autistic spectrum by helping others to understand what it really means to be autistic. Improved training around autism is at the heart of the autism strategy for all public service staff, but particularly for those working in health and social care.
This workshop focuses on enhancing autism understanding through discussion of how autistic people experience the world around them. It promotes the idea that people with autism are better served not by viewing autism as a disorder or condition, but by accepting it as a different way of thinking.
